KUWAIT CITY, Oct 25: In a highly charged election, Abdulaziz Al-Dhafiri, representing the Sulaibikhat Club, emerged victorious as the new President of the Boxing Federation. This follows the resignation of former President Mohamed Mansi the previous month.
The General Assembly of the Boxing Federation convened at the federation's headquarters in Sabah Al-Salem, with all participating boxing clubs in attendance. Al-Dhafiri secured the presidency with 6 votes, defeating his competitor, Hussein Al-Khalidi, the representative of the Fahaheel Club.
The proceedings were marked by intense discussions, spurred by the objection of the Vice President of the Federation, Badr Al-Farraj, and Secretary Mutlaq Al-Azmi, as well as five clubs: Kuwait, Fahaheel, Al-Nasr, Burgan and Al-Qurain. They rejected the participation of Khaled Al-Jarallah, the representative of the Jahra Club, following a letter from the Olympic Committee received on the same day. The letter instructed sports bodies to refrain from engaging with the current board of directors of the Jahra Club due to a decision by the National Sports Arbitration Authority invalidating the club's elections and their consequences.
President-elect Badr Al-Farraj, Secretary Mutlaq Al-Azmi, and the five clubs announced the postponement of the general meeting for a week, in line with the federation's statute, which faced opposition from the clubs. In response, the six "majority" clubs, namely Al-Tadamon, Al-Qadisiyah, Al-Jahra, Al-Salmiya, Al-Sahel, and Sulaibikhat clubs, adjourned to one of the federation's rooms, joined by Assistant Secretary Abdullah Turki, to hold their own general assembly with a full quorum and elect Abdulaziz Al-Dhafiri as the federation's new president.
