Vice President Duterte Engages with Filipino Workers in Kuwait Event

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 16: The Filipino community in Kuwait experienced a memorable day on Friday as Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte visited to honor the contributions and sacrifices of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). The event, organized by the Maysog Organization, drew around 1,000 Filipino workers, who gathered to meet the Vice President, discuss their concerns, and celebrate their shared identity and community spirit.

In her address, Duterte highlighted the crucial role of Filipino workers in supporting the Philippine economy and society. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the millions of Filipinos who supported her in the recent elections, particularly those residing and working in Kuwait, calling them a cornerstone of the nation’s democracy, culture, and economy.

Adding a personal touch, Duterte conveyed messages of appreciation on behalf of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently facing legal proceedings at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. She also revealed that her father has recently experienced weight loss due to diabetes-related health issues, eliciting concern and sympathy from the audience.

Vice President Duterte underscored the significance of remittances from overseas workers, describing them as the backbone of the Philippine economy. She stressed that the government must prioritize protecting the rights of OFWs and listening to their challenges and experiences.

Demonstrating her personal engagement, Duterte took selfies with attendees, a gesture warmly received and reflective of her commitment to understanding their concerns. She concluded her visit to Kuwait with a message envisioning a future where working abroad is a choice rather than a necessity, echoing the aspirations of millions of Filipinos seeking a better life. Duterte returned to the Philippines on Saturday morning following the visit.
