KUWAIT CITY, Oct 31: The current moderate weather in the country has led many citizens to engage in a new activity, which is the use of electric scooters, particularly in many residential areas. Individuals of all ages inhale cold air in the evening by using a scooter, and some of them are also using it as a means to visit cooperative societies in the area or public parks, reports Al-Qabas daily.

With the phrase “The whole society on the scooter”, Twitter users expressed their admiration for the activity, which has paved the way for many to enjoy the outdoors. Some others are surprised by the “boom” that swept many places, as the number of scooters in some areas are more than cars.

The cost of an electric scooter starts from about KD 50 to KD 140. The price of a scooter may increase up to KD 300 for the types that can withstand relatively long distances. They may be used to go to farther places due to their speed. Scooters are often found in electronics stores, and some of them have announced that they have run out of stock due to the high demand.

The engine power varies among the different types of scooters. The maximum speed of some of them is about 15-20 miles per hour, and may travel 45 km. There are some types with an engine that does not exceed 250 watts and travel only 20 km. Speed options and engine power determine the price of the scooter. Most of them are environmentally friendly and do not cause pollution.

The use of electric scooters is not limited to Kuwait, but is prevalent in other parts of the world such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Belgium and other countries.

At a time when citizens benefit from entertainment, people in other countries benefit from it to avoid traffic congestion. Some countries provide scooters on rent through a number of companies at low prices.

Some countries enact laws for the use of electric scooters, which are similar to the rules for bicycles, as these countries work to regulate the many scooters on their streets to avoid the dangers that may arise as a result of scooters crowding out cars.

So will the air scooters continue in Kuwait? Will we use it as a means of transportation sometimes, or will it remain an item for entertainment, especially in light of the COVID-19 measures?!
