KUWAIT CITY, Aug 1: The U.S. Navy warship USS Canberra arrived at Shuaiba Port this week, marking the first visit by a U.S. naval vessel to Kuwait since 2021. The visit coincides with the 35th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, adding symbolic weight to the occasion.

In a statement posted on its official "X" (formerly Twitter) account, the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait highlighted the visit as a testament to the enduring defense partnership between the United States and Kuwait.

“U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Stephen Butler, along with embassy staff, toured the ship to reaffirm our shared commitment to security and prosperity in the Arabian Gulf,” the statement read.

The visit reflects the continued military cooperation between the two nations and serves as a reminder of their longstanding alliance, particularly in the context of regional security and historical ties stemming from the 1990 invasion.
