“…IT appears that the danger of non-Arabs migrating to Kuwait will not end easily, and that the methods that these intruders resort to infiltrating into the country are many and varied. What we have heard about recently is that they come in small boats and land on Failaka Island, where they reside for a little time, and then they sneak into Kuwait with the help of fishing boats, and they stay in the shops or in the homes of their compatriots here. The officials must pay attention to this danger looming over this Arab country, and increase Coast Guard measures and combat smuggling, the greatest threat to the country’s security, health, morals, national entity, and future!

“… when we demand to stop the migration of Iranians, we do not do so because they have seized the opportunity of our weakness and snatched a dear part of our homeland, and they are preparing their equipment to swallow up other parts of the Arab world … (and their goals are in the Gulf) … and they are trying to drown Kuwait with a torrent of migration.. It is not we who started the enmity. It was they who targeted our dignity and they are still carrying out plots against us. We should not be blamed if we try to protect our identity. This situation has nothing to do with enmity.”

The aforementioned paragraphs have been published by Al-Iman magazine in the editions of April and May 1953. Iman was edited and supervised by Ahmad Al Saggaf, Ahmad Al Khateeb, Yousef Ibrahim Al Ghanim and Yousef Al Meshari 70 years back.

Desmond Tutu, South African Anglican bishop and theologian, says: When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said ‘Let us pray, we closed our eyes.

When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land!

In our case, we have been engaged with those whom we considered enemies and we closed our eyes to the other dangers. All of a sudden, we opened our eyes to see that we have been invaded by brothers. After disposing of the invasion and feeling secure, we opened our eyes again to find out that the population has increased multiple times over the natural growth rate.

I do not belittle the Iranian danger and I do not want to start arguments on this issue. I had enough troubles from the Iranian regime. Our enemies are still the same. It is not necessary that everyone who smiles in our face seeks our good. It is also not necessary that those whom we consider enemies wish evil to us.

Israel and Iran supported Kuwait against the Iraqi invasion while some sisterly countries, including the one which obtained the largest part of Kuwaiti aid, supported the invaders. Foreign enemies are well known and we can get ready to compete them either through strengthening the home front or signing treaties with major (powers) allies.

The most dangerous enemy is the invisible one who lives among us. Fifth column is the real enemy. They try to empty the society of its context, heritage and fortune. Their number is growing and they include drug traffickers and the corrupt. They seek to dominate the entire country. They are loyal to foreign parties and they have taken the oath to be loyal to them and not to the Kuwaiti leadership. We have seen some parties celebrating the winning of their candidates of the recent parliamentary elections. We saw them raising their own flags not the flag of Kuwait.

Note: We will be away for two months on a long vacation abroad, and the articles will continue, non-stop.
