Tragedy in Iraq: Wedding Hall Fire Claims Over 150 Lives

NINAWA, Iraq, Sept 27, (Agencies): – In a devastating incident, a fire broke out at a wedding reception hall in the Hamdaniya district of Ninawa province, resulting in a preliminary death toll of 114, with over 150 reported injuries, according to the Ninawa Health Department and the Iraqi Red Crescent.

The Ninawa Civil Defense Directorate immediately dispatched firefighting teams to control the blaze, as stated in a press release by the department, “Civil defense teams are mobilized to control a fire incident that erupted inside an events hall in the Hamdaniya area of Ninawa province.”

Health Minister Saleh Mehdi Al-Hasnawi has ordered the mobilization of ministry resources in Ninawa and surrounding areas to provide medical assistance and treatment to those affected by the tragic fire. In a statement from the Ministry of Health, it was mentioned that “Health Minister Saleh Mehdi Al-Hasnawi has directed the ministry’s departments in Ninawa province and neighboring areas to provide medical assistance and care to the injured in the Hamdaniya district fire incident.”

Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shimari confirmed that all the injured individuals from the Hamdaniya fire incident have been evacuated successfully by the Civil Defense teams. Al-Shimari stated in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, “Civil Defense teams have successfully evacuated all the injured from the Hamdaniya wedding hall fire incident.”

Previously, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani instructed the Ministers of Interior and Health to mobilize all efforts to rescue the victims of the fire in the Hamdaniya district. The Prime Minister’s International Office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is making a phone call to the governor of Ninawa to assess the consequences of the fire that occurred in one of the wedding halls in the Hamdaniya district in Nineveh Plain. He is instructing the Ministers of Interior and Health to mobilize all efforts to rescue the victims of this unfortunate incident.”

The tragic fire incident has left the community in mourning, with authorities and rescue teams working tirelessly to provide relief and support to those affected.
