The Weeknd

LOS ANGELES, Dec 2: The UN World Food Programme (WFP) recently announced a generous donation of $2.5 million from Canadian singer and WFP Goodwill Ambassador, The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye). This substantial contribution from The Weeknd's XO Humanitarian Fund is equivalent to four million emergency meals and will be allocated to support WFP's humanitarian response in Gaza. The funds will facilitate the delivery of 820 tons of food parcels, providing sustenance for over 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks, according to the organization.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis, prompting the WFP to intensify its efforts to address the escalating levels of hunger. Corinne Fleischer, WFP’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe, emphasized the urgent need for a significant scale-up in aid to meet the dire hunger situation in Gaza. Fleischer expressed gratitude to Abel Tesfaye for his valuable contribution and encouraged others to follow his example in supporting the Palestinian people.

Abel Tesfaye, widely known as The Weeknd, assumed the role of WFP Goodwill Ambassador in October 2021. His substantial donation reflects a commitment to alleviating the humanitarian challenges faced by the people of Palestine and underscores the importance of collective support for ongoing relief efforts.
