SITAPUR, UTTAR PRADESH, Oct 23: Officials at a public grievance event in Sitapur district were left utterly baffled — and perhaps slightly amused — when a local man arrived not to complain about potholes or power cuts, but about his wife’s supernatural tendencies.
During Samadhan Diwas (Public Grievance Day - a weekly forum where citizens usually raise everyday civic issues) a man named Meraj, from Lodhsa village in the Mahmoodabad area, startled everyone when he claimed, “Sir, my wife Naseemun turns into a snake at night and tries to bite me!”
According to Meraj, his nights are nothing short of a horror movie. He alleged that his wife has made multiple attempts on his life — all while in serpent form. “She has tried to bite me several times,” he said dramatically. “Each time, I manage to wake up just in time. She tortures me mentally and could kill me one night in my sleep.”
Officials initially thought Meraj might be joking — until he pulled out a written complaint, insisting on an official investigation. The District Magistrate, caught between disbelief and bureaucratic duty, ordered an inquiry and directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and local police to “look into the matter.”
As the story slithered onto social media platform X, netizens wasted no time adding their own venomous humor.
“Who knows whom all she must be biting,” one user quipped.
Another joked, “Maybe he hid her naagmani somewhere!”
A third added, “He should become a cobra too — marriage equality!”
One particularly nostalgic comment read, “This man is truly blessed — he found Sridevi (Indian Film Actress) from Nagina in real life!”
Meanwhile, police have reportedly begun an investigation, treating the incident as a potential case of mental harassment. Meraj insists that his wife had once actually bitten him and frequently chases him at night “after transforming into a serpent.”
For now, Sitapur officials are trying to determine whether the issue involves black magic, marital discord, or an overactive imagination — but one thing is clear: this might be the strangest case ever filed on Public Grievance Day. (NDTV)
