The counselor’s plight

I never had any contact, affection, or disagreement with the former Attorney General, Dirar Al-Asousi, and therefore I will be fair in my words, as much as possible.

The Counsel chaired the Public Prosecution Service in January 2012, and in the most dangerous stage of the era of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, and he was entrusted with important political files in which it was not strange to interfere, given the circumstances of that stage, and the general psychology at the time, we are part of the Third World, and things are relative in all circumstances. Judgment on a person is based on his overall actions, and not on a specific behavior.

Thus, we can honestly say that the man managed files of sensitive security issues competently, and he was an example of toughness and commitment, and it was not surprising that he won more enemies than friends, as the nature of our societies says that.

If we examined the backgrounds of those behind some of the messages that attacked or insulted the person of the former attorney-general, we say that the man was proud of their attack on him, and that he was often right.

As I read Al-Asousi’s resignation, I remembered a rather sour English example of forcing a public servant, in a more insulting way, to accept a sham job promotion to a position that seemed higher, but less influential and important.

I immediately sensed that there was something wrong with it which turned true an hour later, after the person concerned refused the transfer or promotion, and asked in an unprecedented letter to refer him for retirement because the decision to promote him included in text and style the abuse.

However, the “government saw further abuse and accepted his resignation with immediate effect, and its acceptance was perhaps the fastest in the history of Kuwait, and the most insulting to holders of sensitive positions, especially since the decision to promote or dismiss was issued when the man was on official leave, and there was nothing to prevent his return before that decision!

There is no objection to changing the blood in the high positions of the state, as we have been waiting for that for a long time especially after most of them failed to fight corruption in their administrations, or succeeded in developing them. For a quarter of a century, we have been talking about e-government, and we have not seen anything from it other than some development, thanks to the corona epidemic!

The dismissal of Counselor Al-Asousi from his prestigious position, and in his absence is a message to every faithful person that his sincerity will not protect him from abuse, and that he must “take care of himself” first and foremost. What followed with him was easy to avoid, it wasn’t so bad to get rid of before he wreaked more havoc.

Also, his dismissal prompted representatives to offend and insult each occupant of that position, as if whoever occupies it is behind all the backwardness, delay and corruption we suffer from.

I am not here to honor the former Public Prosecutor or to defend his biography, but how can we judge his past without an investigation. Will our affairs now be better, especially since whoever dares to question his work will continue to do so, until he gets what he wants?
