KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: Today marks the commencement of the highly anticipated Kuwait Men's Chess Championship, hosted by the Kuwait Handicap Club at its headquarters in Al-Qadisiya. The championship is set to unfold over the course of the next month, culminating on February 1.Adel Al-Amiri, Vice President of the club, highlighted the tournament's significance as the premier annual chess event, attracting over 50 Kuwaiti players. The outcomes of this competition will play a pivotal role in determining the season's overall standings across various age levels.

The tournament will employ the Swiss system, spanning nine rounds from the inaugural matches today to the conclusive ninth round on February 1. All the action will take place at the club's headquarters in the Qadisiyah area, overseen by the organizing committee head, Bashayer Al-Zaid, and the judging committee head, Khalaf Al-Azmi.

Al-Amiri expressed his optimism for the tournament's success, anticipating fierce competition among the top Kuwaiti players and the emergence of new talents capable of delivering surprises throughout the championship.In a related development, the Kuwait Schools Rapid Chess League is scheduled to take place at the club's headquarters on February 8th, further contributing to the vibrant chess scene in Kuwait.
