KUWAIT CITY, Jan 18: During the court session presided over by Judge Saleh Al- Muraishid, the Court of Cassation upheld the ruling issued by the Court of Appeals to sentence a Municipal Council member and a former official of the Kuwait Municipality to ten-year imprisonment. It also sentenced a businessman to five years imprisonment with hard labor.

Both defendants were also fined large sums of money in the municipal bribery case. Last March, the Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Nayef Al-Dahoum, sentenced a member of the Municipal Council and an employee to ten years imprisonment, dismissed them from their jobs, and obliged them to pay fines. It also sentenced a businessman to five years imprisonment with hard labor, after they were convicted of the crimes of bribery and abuse of office. According to the case file, the court charged the Municipal Council member with abuse of office and bribery of KD 100,000 to vote on a transaction in the council related to a land area and register it in the name of a company.
