KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22: The Ministry of Education is working on forming a work team, headed by the Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative and Development Affairs Raja Bouarki, for facilitating the procedures for new arriving teachers recruited from Jordan and Palestine. The first batch of these teachers is expected to arrive early September, reports Al-Rai daily.

The members of this work team include some employees of the General Services Department in the Ministry of Education, and a number of employees of the administrative sector, and other government agencies such as the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior. With the resumption of activities that were suspended since the 2019/2020 school year due to the COVID-19 crisis, official educational sources explained that the team will need about three weeks to complete all procedures for the arriving teachers.

The most important of these procedures are coordinate with the Ministry of Interior to obtain entry visa and record their fingerprints, write to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to receive them at Kuwait International Airport, coordinate with the Ports Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior to obtain a permit to park the ministry’s cars at the airport, transfer the teachers and their luggage to the accommodation arranged for them, and then coordinate with the Ministry of Health to conduct a medical tests for them in two shifts – morning and evening. The ministry will grant each teacher an advance amount of KD 200 until their work starts and their first salary is deposited. This is an annual procedure it takes to facilitate teachers’ affairs. Each teacher is given a SIM card.

The ministry also coordinates with banks to open bank accounts for the teachers, and coordinates with the Public Authority for Civil Information to complete their procedures and issue temporary IDs to them. The Public Education Sector and the Administrative Sector had taken into account the refusal of offers by some teachers, due to which a reserve ratio of contracts was determined for teachers. Also, recruitment will happen locally to meet the purpose of filling the deficit and providing educational cadres for new schools that are expected to open at the beginning of the first semester of the academic new year. The sources revealed that the maximum number of refusals of the job offer came from Palestinian teachers. They indicated that the Public Education Sector specified in the ministry’s decision the disciplines required and the years of experience needed in each discipline.

However, there may be exceptions to the requirement of experience in some disciplines if necessary, as this depends on the percentage of teachers’ availability, especially in scientific disciplines. The sources stated that the ministry’s team will address the transportation department in the General Services Department to provide transportation for the new teachers during their stay in the guest accomodation. They carried out prior coordination with the same department to provide appropriate housing for the female teachers in the ministry’s housing, and ensured that all the female teachers’ needs were met. They affirmed the ministry’s keenness to facilitate everything related to the affairs of teachers from the moment they arrive until they start working in schools.
