Talks on to hire Filipino workers; Decision expected within 48 hours

KUWAIT CITY, April 11: The agencies involved in the recruitment of Filipino domestic workers held a series of meetings with the domestic labor recruitment offices in Kuwait in a bid to specify certain procedures for the recruitment of new workers, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting reliable sources. Sources disclosed one of such meetings was held on Wednesday, during which the agencies sending Filipino domestic workers abroad said they are waiting for the decision of the Department of Labor and Employment in the Philippines to allow them to receive requests for female domestic workers who will be employed in Kuwaiti homes.

They expect the issuance of the decision within the next 48 hours. Sources said the domestic labor recruitment offices in Kuwait continue to submit their job orders for attestation at the Embassy of the Philippines here. Sources confirmed the Philippine Embassy team has started checking the houses for new workers in accordance with the conditions specified in previous meetings between the Philippine side and the secretariat of the domestic labor recruitment offices in Kuwait.

Sources added the ‘Besalama’ platform has received requests for the return of domestic workers from six countries — India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Nepal, Bangladesh and Ethiopia that was included in the list recently.
