KUWAIT CITY, March 8: Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Kuwait SM Abul-Kalam has unveiled the suffering of the Bangladeshi community in the country due to precautionary measures affecting the citizens of a number of countries including Bangladesh, particularly the requirement to obtain authenticated health certificates proving they are free of the coronavirus, reports Al-Anba daily.

Abul-Kalam said most members of his community reside in villages far from the capital, which makes obtaining a health certificate and documentation from the Kuwaiti Embassy a journey of great suffering considering the number of Bangladeshis who spend their holidays back home is estimated at 10,000 monthly.

Regarding the decision of his country to prohibit entry of citizens of four countries, including Kuwait, to Bangladesh without obtaining a health certificate stating the traveler is free of coronavirus; he explained the decision comes within the framework of precautionary measures taken by his country to curb the spread of coronavirus.

He pointed out that Kuwaitis wishing to travel to Bangladesh must obtain a documented health certificate to be presented to the embassy before applying for visa.

After the Cabinet meeting resulted in instructing the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to stop implementation of circular number 25 issued by the directorate on March 3, 2020 imposing procedures for examination (PCR) on travelers from some countries, the daily communicated with the ambassador who in turn expressed his happiness over this decision.

He confirmed the decision alleviated the suffering of his community, while preserving the full right of Kuwait to protect its citizens. On his country’s decision to require Kuwaiti travelers to Bangladesh to submit a medical certificate stating that they are free of coronavirus, he said: “I will communicate with my Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform them of the Kuwaiti decision and I will update you on the developments.”
