KUWAIT CITY, May 8: The General Traffic Department has issued a warning to motorists against making sudden turns on the road, urging drivers to activate hazard lights after completing a turn to ensure road safety.
In a series of awareness posts, the department outlined proper procedures for lane changes and turns, emphasizing that all directional changes must be signaled in advance. Drivers are advised to switch on their hazard lights from a safe distance when preparing to turn right or left, to alert other road users and prevent accidents.
The department clarified that hazard lights — also referred to as the four-way flashers — should be used only in specific circumstances such as sudden stops, vehicle breakdowns, slow driving, or emergencies. Proper use of these lights is essential for the safety of the driver and others on the road, officials stressed.
Under the updated traffic regulations, failing to adhere to lane markings carries a penalty of KD 50 if settled out of court. If the violation proceeds to court, the offender may face up to two months in jail, a fine ranging between KD 100 and KD 200, or both.
For swerving between vehicles, the fine is KD 30 under a settlement order. If the matter is referred to court, the penalty increases to a maximum of one month in jail, a fine of KD 50 to KD 100, or either penalty.
