KUWAIT CITY, May 5: Acting Director of the Meteorology Department Dharar Al-Ali has forecast that Kuwait will experience strong northwesterly winds beginning Monday evening, with speeds exceeding 60 kilometers per hour. These conditions are expected to reduce horizontal visibility in some areas and cause sea waves to rise beyond six feet.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ali noted that weather maps indicate these conditions will continue through Friday evening. He emphasized that this period, known locally as the "Sarayat," is a transitional phase marked by instability and rapid changes in weather patterns.
Al-Ali reported that on Sunday evening, the country experienced active winds reaching over 70 kilometers per hour, with gusts surpassing 100 kilometers per hour. These winds caused visibility in some northern regions to drop below 1,000 meters and even reach zero in certain areas.
He added that Kuwait also saw an increase in low to medium clouds, interspersed with cumulus clouds at times, and scattered thunderstorms in some locations. These developments were attributed to the influence of an extended thermal low-pressure system over the region.
The meteorology department urged motorists, particularly those on highways, to exercise caution due to reduced visibility. Al-Ali warned that the coming days will continue to feature unpredictable weather conditions, and residents should stay updated via official forecasts and advisories.
