Strong Winds Disrupt Visibility; Unsettled Weather to Persist

KUWAIT CITY, May 12: Kuwait experienced strong winds today, with speeds exceeding 50 km/h, leading to a sudden drop in horizontal visibility, particularly in desert and exposed areas, according to Dharar Al-Ali, Director of the Meteorology Department.

The current weather conditions are attributed to the influence of a surface low-pressure system, which has brought light to moderate southerly and southeasterly winds. In some areas, these winds intensified, contributing to reduced visibility and scattered dust.

Wind speeds are expected to gradually decrease to around 40 km/h in the coming hours. Tonight’s forecast includes continued southerly winds, partly cloudy skies, and a chance of light, scattered rain and localized dust storms during the late-night hours.

Al-Ali noted that the country is currently in the "Sarayat" period—a seasonal transitional phase known for its rapid and unpredictable weather changes. This instability is likely to persist through the end of the month.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather developments through the Meteorology Department’s official website, mobile app, and social media channels.
