KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: Upon directives issued by the Director-General Brigadier of the Ahmadi Security Directorate Abdulla Saffah, in cooperation with the Kuwait Municipality, Ahmadi branch, security patrols arrested Asian street vendors in Mahboula, reports Al-Anba daily. During the campaign police confiscated and destroyed foodstuffs, vegetables and clothes.

The police also set up checkpoints in a number of areas in the Al-Ahmadi governorate with special focus on Mahboula, Mangaf, Abu Halifa and Fintas.

The daily quoting security sources said 300 people were arrested including some violators of the residence law and more than 60 people wanted by law.

This is in addition to seven Kuwaitis who had been sentenced in absentia and wanted by the Sentences Enforcement Department and another Asian who had been sentenced in absentia to 5 years in a drugrelated crime. Among the Kuwaitis were two people – a man for failing to pay KD 24,000 and a woman KD 130. All the arrested persons have been referred to the concerned authorities. Earlier, a team from Department of Public Hygiene and Road Occupation at Farwaniya Municipality carried out a campaign targeting cafés in Riggae and Ardiya Industrial Area, and issued 27 citations, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In a press release, Director of the department Sa’ad Al- Khurainej said the campaign targeted cafés that erected tents for receiving customers without obtaining the relevant licenses. He explained that warnings were issued previously for the violators to obtain licenses if they did not want the tents to be lifted. However, the violators did not respond to the warnings due to which the inspectors issued 27 citations against them. The Violation Lifting Department will be informed for the removal of the violating tents.
