Sticks of the government

Every time, whenever our political conditions deteriorated, our economic conditions were ruined, our streets were damaged, our budget became scarce, our neighbors prospered, and our sisters got ahead of us, the idea of getting rid of democracy and returning to autocracy and promoting its advantages including disposing of silly proposals and extremist bills.

Nevertheless, and fortunately, every time something happens to put me back to my primary situation of adopting democracy, constitutions, freedom and the virtues of the ruling family that we have been familiar with over the years. Such things formed the Kuwaiti personality that freedom has become one of its aspects and a life style for the Kuwaiti citizens.

The most recent of those alarms that turned me back to adhere to democracy is the speech of a Sheikh, member of Al Sabah Family broadcast by a TV channel where he drew the image of Kuwait once the Constitution is suspended, the Parliament is nullified and judiciary and legislative authorities are done away with. As a matter of fact, there is no government in the entire world that is happy if being monitored, questioned or asked to resign.

However, the advanced nations concluded that this is the best way to run a modern country. There is no way to seek advancement while you ignore the successful experiences of advanced countries and neglect the advices of wise men.

As a rule, every absolute authority leads to absolute corruption. Whoever in charge at present, enjoying dictatorship, will be the first to complain against the lack of justice once he is out of power.

We are satisfied with our democracy and moreover, we are proud of it. In spite of its shortcomings, democracy makes us distinguished among the other nations.

Despite the reasons that may push some people to lose his trust in democracy, it is essential to adhere to democracy not because of fears to get back to the era of physical sticks in the hands of the government/ruler to hit the opposing individuals as mentioned by that member of the ruling family in the TV interview, but because of the potential devastation that will include everyone.

We go back and repeat what we have previously called for, that adhering to democracy means accepting its outcomes, and this acceptance cannot be achieved without reviewing the files of all those who were granted “first-degree” citizenship after liberation until today, and without that, there will be no medicine and no evil tomorrow.

Note: It seems that some found in my Friday’s article “Al-Mishari’s Dream” an insult to a dignified and dear group of residents of “Shuwaikh B”.

The article did not intend to direct any insult to any party, but rather it was an innocent joke, they all have my full respects, with our apologies for any unintended offense!
