COLOMBO, Oct 6, (Xinhua): Sri Lankan police have arrested 76,000 individuals who failed to comply with warrants issued against them between Jan. 1 and the end of September, local media reported on Monday. Police spokesperson F. U. Wootler was quoted by local media as saying that the arrests were made as part of a nationwide initiative to curb crime and drug trafficking.
He said that during the first nine months of 2025, police conducted searches on more than 5.6 million people across the country to detect illegal drugs and weapons. Sri Lankan police have seized a total of 1,248 kg of heroin and 1,852 kg of crystal methamphetamine during the past nine months, according to police.
