KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: The General Traffic Department has begun summoning drivers caught by traffic control cameras for exceeding speed limits, in preparation for enforcing strict legal measures, including impounding their vehicles for 60 days. This initiative is part of the department’s efforts to strengthen traffic enforcement and reduce dangerous driving behaviors that put road users at risk. The department reaffirmed its commitment to strictly enforcing the law to protect lives and property.
Starting April 22, 2025, drivers who exceed the speed limit will face a prison sentence of one to three years, a fine ranging from 600 to 1,000 Kuwaiti dinars, or one of these penalties, upon referral to the court. Additionally, a reconciliation order will range between 70 and 150 dinars, depending on the speed limit of the road and the driver’s violation.
