Special Olympics MENA Equestrian Championship kicks off in Al Ain

AL AIN, Aug 26: The inaugural regional equestrian competition of the Special Olympics for the Middle East and North Africa officially opened in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Organized by Special Olympics UAE, the event brings together athletes from Kuwait and 10 other Arab nations, with competitions running until next Thursday.

During the opening ceremony, Sadiqa Al-Ansari, Secretary General of Al-Tomooh Club and head of the Kuwaiti delegation, emphasized that Kuwait’s participation reflects its commitment to integrating athletes with intellectual disabilities into regional and international sporting events. She highlighted equestrian sport as one that demands high levels of focus, discipline, and specialized skills in horse training.

Al-Ansari noted that the championship not only provides a platform for competition but also fosters stronger connections among athletes across the region and encourages the exchange of expertise among coaches and officials. She praised the efforts of Special Olympics UAE for their excellent organization and support for all delegations.

The Kuwaiti delegation is represented by riders Basmah Al-Busaili, Maryam Dhiab, and Abdullah Al-Ali, under the guidance of coaches Sarah Bouhamdi and Mohammed Al-Kandari.
