KUWAIT CITY, Aug 30: Relevant government authorities have decided to ease restrictions on women whose Kuwaiti citizenships were revoked under Article 8 (Ex Wives of Kuwaitis) and individuals stripped of nationality under Article 5 (Charitable Deeds / Service to the nation). These individuals will be permitted to continue exercising their commercial rights by making routine adjustments to company structures and commercial licenses—except for increasing their ownership—unless barred by specific security restrictions.
According to informed sources, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will soon reopen its systems to allow affected individuals to transfer or withdraw their shares in companies to others, as well as renew commercial licenses. This will not apply to those whose names appear on the list of individuals banned for security reasons. Transactions, including selling full ownership or partially liquidating shares, will be formally documented within the Ministry of Justice’s system.
The same sources clarified that the lifting of restrictions will apply only to shareholders whose citizenships have been revoked but who are registered with the “My Kuwait Identity” application of the Public Authority for Civil Information. This arrangement will remain in force until the expiry of the government’s grace period granted to individuals to regularize their nationality status.
Officials stressed that once the deadline passes, the Ministry of Commerce will again block system access for those who fail to legalize their status. However, individuals who comply within the grace period will be allowed to retain their shares in full—even if their ownership exceeds 50 percent of a company—as they will be granted special exemptions and benefits under the new framework.
