DUBAI, Oct 13: Kuwait will play a friendly match against Morocco’s B team at 6:00 p.m. today at Al-Aweer Stadium in Dubai, UAE.
The game is part of Kuwait’s ongoing preparation program, which began in late September, ahead of its Arab Cup playoff match against Mauritania scheduled for November in Doha, Qatar.
The team will conclude its current training camp tomorrow before heading to another camp in Cairo, Egypt, in November. During that camp, Kuwait will play two friendlies against Tanzania and Gambia on November 14 and 18, respectively, before traveling to Doha for the decisive clash with Mauritania.
The Kuwaiti delegation arrived in the UAE last Friday from Tashkent, where it faced Uzbekistan in a friendly that ended in a 2-0 defeat.
Head coach Helio Sousa is aiming for his first win with the team in his third match in charge, after a 2-2 draw with Syria in September and the recent loss to Uzbekistan.
During recent training sessions, Sousa and his staff focused on correcting the defensive errors that cost the team two early goals against Uzbekistan. Sousa believes the players need more time and match experience to fully grasp his tactical approach, but remains hopeful they will adapt quickly to deliver the desired results.
On the other side, Morocco’s B team recently defeated Egypt’s B team 2-0 last Friday in a friendly at Al-Bashir Stadium in Mohammedia, Rabat.
The Moroccan squad, led by Coach Tarek Sektioui, is preparing for the Arab Cup, where they have been drawn into Group B alongside Saudi Arabia, the winner of Oman vs. Somalia, and the winner of Yemen vs. Comoros. Sektioui aims to continue his team’s strong form and contend for the Arab Cup title.
The Kuwaiti delegation is scheduled to return home tomorrow from the UAE camp. International players will rejoin their clubs before regrouping again in Cairo on November 10 for the next phase of preparations.
