Somali arrested for waylaying expats, stealing cash, phones

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14: An Egyptian expatriate was arrested for stealing the debit card of a Mauritanian expatriate in Shuwaikh area and withdrawing KD 12,000 from his bank account.

According to security sources, the Mauritanian expatriate had placed his debit card with the secret pin written on it inside his vehicle in Shuwaikh area. He later discovered that his debit card was stolen and a total of KD 12,000 was stolen in batches from his bank account. He immediately notified the police about the theft.

Securitymen, based on directives from the Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security at Ministry of Interior Major General Abdulhameed Al-Awadi and Director General of General Investigations Department Brigadier Mohammad Al-Sharhan, checked the records of the surveillance cameras and identified the thief, who happened to be a 1986- born Egyptian expatriate.

He was arrested after he confessed to the crime and he was referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action. Meanwhile, a Somali expatriate was arrested for waylaying expatriates and robbing them of their money and mobile phones in Khaitan area.

In addition, an Egyptian expatriate was arrested in Salmiya area for stealing vehicles and swindling a number of individuals under the pretext of selling the stolen cars for a commission. Reportedly, he was arrested after stealing a citizen’s vehicle worth KD 9,000. Meanwhile, a 1954-born retired officer of rank Lieutenant Colonel of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate died mysteriously inside his ‘Mercedes Benz’ car in Salmiya area.

According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received a call from a passerby who said a man sitting his vehicle appeared dead, securitymen and paramedics rushed to the location immediately.

They examined the man to discover he was indeed dead. The corpse was referred to the Forensics Department for autopsy and investigations have been launched to unravel the mystery behind his death. Meanwhile, a 65-year old Kuwaiti citizen died during a desert tour in Al-Rataqa in north of Kuwait. His companion tried hard to ensure he survived by rushing him to Jahra Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. His corpse has been referred to the Forensics for autopsy.
