KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5: The Ministry of Social Affairs has reported a significant number of juvenile delinquency cases related to traffic violations. Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Social Welfare Sector, Dr. Jassim Al-Kandari, stated that from January to June of last year, 146 cases of juveniles driving without a license were recorded.
In a statement to Al-Anba, Al-Kandari revealed that the Juvenile Department currently houses 56 inmates, categorized as follows: 3 at risk of delinquency, 18 accused of indecent assault, 7 involved in theft cases, 3 for drug abuse, 4 accused of assault and kidnapping, 2 for weapon possession and impersonation, 4 for traffic violations, 2 for attempted murder, 1 for abuse, and another for a state security-related offense.
The Social Monitoring Office and shelter cases total 496, including 383 judicial probation implementations and 51 social research reports directed to the courts.
Dr. Al-Kandari also discussed the operational projects approved for all departments within the sector for the fiscal year 2024-2025. Each department has begun implementing these projects according to established timelines.
In the Juvenile Care Department, projects include training workshops like “Hand in Hand to Protect You,” the “Emotional Relief” program, “Employee Rights and Job Duties,” and the issuance of a guide on employee rights and duties. Additionally, the department is enhancing the “Juvenile Care Department Library” and restoring the Girls’ House Library.
The “Family Nursery” department has approved projects such as “Academic Excellence in Children’s Home,” the “Restoration and Renovation of the Children’s House Mosque,” and “Implementation of Job Rotation to Develop Administrative Performance between Departments.”
For “Elderly Care,” the projects include the “Maintenance and Modification of Rooms and Suites of Inmates at Farah Specialized Center,” the “Opening and Operating the Physiotherapy Clinic in the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Mobile Service Department,” “Development and Promotion of Technical Cadres and Workers in the Elderly Care Department,” and the “Mechanization of Files for Inmates and the Elderly in the Social and Psychological Office and Organization and Renewal of Files.”
The Awareness and Guidance Department has launched several initiatives, including developing skills for employees working as religious guides, mechanizing the document cycle, and organizing a spring camp for children and residents of social care homes.
The Psychological and Social Guidance Center has approved projects aimed at performance development, including the administrative development program for employees, a training program for employees working with residents, and the celebration of Mental Health Day. Additionally, the center is implementing a rehabilitation program through play and enhancing skills and talents.
The Activities and Media Department is focusing on awareness projects such as “Our Message to You from the Social Care Sector,” “Development and Maintenance of Facilities for the General Activities and Media Department,” and developing skills for employees in sports and mental health.
Training workshops at the Juvenile Management Complex include courses in computers, blacksmithing, carpentry, Arabic calligraphy, and mechanics. The complex is also equipping its library with the latest resources and providing facilities for gyms and sports fields.
The Awareness and Guidance Department organized various lectures and religious activities during the summer vacation. The Public Activities and Media Department prepared an integrated program for residents, including trips to the Avenues Cinema and weekly swimming activities. Additionally, continuous activities for juvenile delinquents, such as billiards, baby foot, and table tennis, were organized. A trip to Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Center and an entertainment party in cooperation with volunteer groups were also held.
Dr. Al-Kandari emphasized that the Juvenile Care Department has developed various entertainment and educational programs for the summer, including sports activities, swimming, basketball, football, and external trips for the residents of social guest houses. The Ministry remains committed to providing comprehensive care and development for all individuals under its supervision.
