Siwan announces retirement ceremony after a storied career

KUWAIT CITY, May 14: Faisal Siwan, former star of the Kuwait handball team and Sulaibikhat Club, has announced the date of his retirement ceremony, scheduled for June 9th after the current handball season 2023-2024. The retirement match will feature former Kuwaiti stars.

Currently serving as the director of national teams in the Handball Federation, Siwan’s handball journey began in 1992 at Sulaibikhat Club. His exceptional talent propelled him to the first team in 1998, where he became instrumental in executing coaches’ strategies. Siwan later played for Al-Qurain Club from 2012 to 2014 and then joined Al-Kuwait Club from 2014 to 2016 before retiring.

Throughout his career, Siwan represented the junior and youth teams in 1997. He played for the senior team from 1999 to 2014, securing league titles and cups with both Sulaibikhat and Kuwait Club. His achievements also include winning the Gulf Cup in 2004, the Arab Club Championship in 2003, and the Asian Cup in 2009. Additionally, he clinched the Arab Championship in 2014 with Al-Qurain and competed in foreign tournaments with clubs like Al-Wahda in Saudi Arabia and Al-Fahaheel in the Asian Cup.

Siwan’s international accolades include five World Cup finals appearances from 2001 to 2009 and winning the Asian Cup twice in 2002 and 2004 with Al-Azraq.

In other handball news, the 13th and final round of the Handball League will feature two matches today. Kazma will face Al-Salmiya at 5:00 PM, while Al-Qadisiyah will play against Sulaibikhat at 6:30 PM. Additionally; Al-Arabi secured victory 38-29 over Al-Nasr.
