RIYADH, Sept 5: Residents of Hail, western Saudi Arabia, were left trembling after a mysterious glowing object appeared in the night sky on September 3—before violently exploding in a flash of light that seemed straight out of a sci-fi thriller.
Videos racing across social media show the eerie orb floating silently above the horizon, motionless, almost as if watching—before it suddenly burst apart in the upper atmosphere. The incident, captured just after sunset, spread fear and fascination in equal measure.
But Hail wasn’t alone. The same glowing object was reported over Medina, Hafar Al-Batin, and other towns, convincing many that something far larger was at play. Locals whispered of meteors, secret rocket tests, or even undisclosed military technology. Others dared to utter the word “UFO.”
Generally, meteors streak; they don’t hover, and for Auroras are nearly impossible in the Middle East. And yet—no authority, from the Ministry of Defense to the Saudi Space Commission, has stepped forward with an explanation.
Even more unsettling, this isn’t the first time. Similar phantom lights appeared over Saudi skies on May 13 and July 1, 2025, vanishing without answers. Three unexplained appearances in less than a year—coincidence, or a pattern?
For now, the desert skies hide their secrets. But as many Saudis stared upward that night, one chilling thought lingered: what if it comes back?
