LONDON, Dec 2: In a surprising turn of events, the controversial claim made by Meghan Markle during her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, about concerns over her son Archie's skin color, has resurfaced in a new book, reigniting the royal race row that shook the British monarchy almost three years ago.

Meghan, whose mixed-race heritage includes a Black mother and a white father, disclosed during the interview that there were "concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born" while she was pregnant with Archie. The couple, Prince Harry and Meghan, refrained from naming the royal who made the remarks, and Oprah Winfrey later clarified that it was neither Queen Elizabeth nor Prince Philip.

The ensuing controversy prompted Buckingham Palace to issue a statement on behalf of the queen, asserting that "recollections may vary." Prince William, now heir to the throne, denied allegations of racism within the royal family. In a subsequent 2023 TV interview, Harry emphasized that neither he nor Meghan had accused any family member of racism.

Journalist Omid Scobie's latest book, "Endgame," thrusts the issue back into the spotlight by claiming that the names of two individuals involved were identified in private letters exchanged between Prince Charles and Meghan after the Oprah interview. However, UK laws reportedly prevented Scobie from disclosing these names. Despite this, the Dutch edition of the book briefly included the names, leading to its temporary removal from sale.

During his TalkTV show, British broadcaster Piers Morgan, a vocal critic of Harry and Meghan, named the royals allegedly involved. He criticized Scobie as the couple's "lickspittle" and brought the matter to public attention.
