DOHA, July 16:  Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Officially Announces Candidacy for President of the Olympic Council of Asia

Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and First Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), formally declared his candidacy yesterday for the presidency of the Olympic Council of Asia. His decision underscores his commitment to advancing sports development across Asia and promoting greater unity and cohesion on the continent in the years to come.

This announcement comes following the opening of the nomination period for the Asian Olympic Council presidential elections on July 15, in preparation for the upcoming General Assembly scheduled for January 2026 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Sheikh Joaan extended his sincere gratitude to the current Council president, Raja Randhir Singh, lauding his significant contributions and leadership in promoting Asian sports during his tenure. He praised Singh’s ongoing commitment to strengthening collaboration and teamwork among Asian National Olympic Committees and fully supports the Executive Board’s decision to appoint Singh as Honorary Lifetime President of the Council, honoring his enduring legacy and exceptional service to the Asian Olympic movement.
