MANAMA, Oct 27: Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, expressed his pride in Yasmin Walid for winning the gold medal in the high jump at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, calling it a landmark achievement for Kuwaiti women’s sports. He noted that this historic victory highlights the talent and potential of young Kuwaiti athletes and their ability to compete internationally, raising Kuwait’s profile on the continental stage. Al-Nasser extended congratulations to Yasmin, her family, and the technical and administrative teams, emphasizing the strong support Kuwaiti sports receive from the nation’s leadership and reaffirming the Olympic Committee’s commitment to nurturing both established and emerging athletes. Fatima Hayat, Board Member of the Kuwait Olympic Committee and Chair of the Women’s Sports Committee, also expressed her delight at Yasmin’s achievement and dedicated the success to His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad.
Meanwhile, Ali Al-Mary, Assistant Secretary and Head of the Kuwaiti delegation, praised all Kuwaiti athletes for their high-level performances, noting that their success reflects the institutional support and structured preparation provided by the Olympic Committee and relevant sports federations.
The Kuwaiti national youth handball team will face Bahrain in a key semifinal match at 7:00 p.m. today. Competing against the host nation, both teams aim to deliver their best performance to reach the final on Thursday and contend for the gold medal.
Qaed Al-Adwani, Secretary-General of the Kuwaiti Handball Federation, praised the support of Sheikh Fahad Nasser and Hussein Al-Musallam, highlighting that their guidance has created a solid foundation for the players to excel. He wished success to the team and the technical and administrative staff. Kuwait secured its semifinal berth after defeating Iran 24-19, finishing top of Group B.
The Kuwaiti national Ju-Jitsu team has departed for Bahrain to compete in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, with events starting Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. The squad includes Khaled Al-Ruwaish, Dhari Al-Fawzan, Abdullah Al-Jabr, Faisal Al-Ajmi, Abdulrahman Al-Sharif, Abdullah Al-Kandari, Hamad Al-Shuwaib, Abdulaziz Saud, Mishari Al-Mutairi, and Abdulaziz Al-Buraiki, along with technical and administrative staff Abdullah Al-Mulla and Abdulrahman Firman.
