LOS ANGELES, Oct 11: Francia Raísa, who donated a kidney to Selena Gomez in 2017, is addressing ongoing rumors about a fallout between them.
The actress, known for roles in How I Met Your Father and Grown-ish, dismissed claims that she confronted Gomez over her behavior, including reports that Gomez was smoking after the transplant.
“Well, right now, what you’re asking me is nonsense... and there are too many rumors,” Raísa told Univision’s Primer Impacto, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. “When the rumor came out that I was angry or something because [Selena] was smoking, I wasn’t aware of those rumors.”
She added, “What you’re asking me is rumors. No one knows what’s going on, and neither she nor I is talking about it. Maybe one day we will address it.”
In a separate interview in Spanish with journalist Magaly Ortiz, conducted just days before Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco on September 27, Raísa declined to comment on whether the two had reconciled following their rumored estrangement.
“You know what? I’m not going to talk about that right now,” she said, according to a translated clip posted on Ortiz’s YouTube channel. “But I do know she’s getting married and I’m very happy for her... she has a life, she’s already a billionaire, and I’m grateful I was able to do that for her.”
Speculation about the state of Gomez and Raísa’s friendship has grown recently, especially since there has been no public confirmation that Raísa attended Gomez and Blanco’s wedding. Other guests, including Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, and longtime friend Taylor Swift, were confirmed to be there.
Back in 2017, Gomez referred to Raísa as her “beautiful friend” in an Instagram post announcing her kidney transplant following a lupus diagnosis.
Since then, Raísa’s presence in Gomez’s life appears to have lessened. In 2023, Raísa hinted that their friendship had experienced “rocky and tricky” moments.
“I treat her like my little sister; she treats me like her older sister. I don’t know any relationship that’s perfect,” Raísa told Extra TV. “Sometimes people need to spend time apart in order to grow. We had to almost go on our own journey and grow.”
