Searing 52°C heat set to grip Kuwait
Kuwait’s weather turns harsh: Dust storms and heatwave ahead until Wednesday.

KUWAIT CITY, July 20: Kuwait will experience hot, dry weather accompanied by strong winds causing dust storms and reduced visibility from Sunday through Wednesday, according to Dharar Al-Ali, Acting Director of the Meteorology Department.

Al-Ali told KUNA that starting today, the country will face hot, dry, moderate to strong northwesterly winds exceeding 50 kilometers per hour in some areas. These winds will generate dust storms and reduce visibility, especially in exposed regions.

He explained that these weather conditions are due to an extension of the Indian monsoon depression, bringing a hot and dry air mass with northwesterly winds. The winds are also expected to cause sea waves to rise above six feet at times.

The northwesterly winds will continue into Monday, with speeds ranging between 15 and 60 kilometers per hour, causing more dust storms and further reducing horizontal visibility, particularly in open areas. Sea waves are expected to remain above six feet.

Wind activity will increase further on Tuesday and Wednesday, with winds becoming strong at times, stirring up more dust and reducing visibility to less than 1,000 meters in some open regions. Sea waves will continue to exceed six feet during this period.

Al-Ali added that daytime temperatures will be very hot, with nighttime temperatures remaining hot as well. Dust-raising winds are expected to peak on Tuesday and Wednesday but will gradually settle during the evening hours.

Maximum temperatures are forecasted to range between 49 and 52 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will hover between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius. He also noted that temperatures are expected to rise further toward the end of the week.
