RIYADH, Sep 17 : Authorities in Saudi Arabia have closed an online store after it was found misleading customers by falsely promising a luxury car as a prize in a promotional contest.
The store, which sells oud and perfume products, had posted an advertisement featuring an image of a luxury car alongside wording that encouraged customers to purchase product packages, implying that doing so would give them a chance to win the vehicle.
The Ministry of Commerce acted swiftly, ordering the removal of the advertisement and referring the store owner to the E-Commerce System Violations Review Committee. The owner was subsequently fined for the violation.
The ministry warned that such deceptive practices could result in fines of up to 1 million riyals and, in severe cases, lead to the blocking of the store’s website. Authorities emphasized that protecting consumers from misleading marketing remains a top priority.
