KUWAIT CITY, Dec 18: Muhammad Al-Saffar, the engineer in charge of South Surra development, has announced that King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Road (Road 40) will be completely closed for three days starting from Thursday, says Al-Seyassah.

Al-Saffar attributed the closure of this road to the demolition work on a bypass bridge connecting Mishref, Bayan, Mubarak Al-Abdullah, Salwa and South Surra with its suburbs. He also confirmed the opening of alternative routes for motorists.

This is part of the Public Authority for Road and Transportation’s projects around Sheikh Jaber Hospital, which will also include the King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Road (Road 40) between Bayan, Mishref and South Surra.

Al-Saffar pointed out that the demolition of this bridge is necessary to develop the IC-44 intersection connecting King Fahd Road (Road 40) for motorists from the South (Ahmadi City) and those from the North (Kuwait City) in South Surra with its suburbs – Hateen, Zahra, Shuhada, Salam and Saddiq; as well as Mishref, Salwa, Bayan and Mubarak Al-Abdullah. He added this sector will witness better traffic movement upon completion of the project as traffic signals will be eliminated and motorists will enjoy smooth traffic flow – without the congestion caused by traffic lights. He said the bridge demolition work will take three days – until Sunday morning, clarifying the road will remain closed throughout the whole period in order to ensure the safety of motorists and the workers involved in the project.
