Revenue of the Holy Quran printing authority lags behind expenses

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 25: The final account of the Public Authority for the Care and Publishing of the Holy Quran, the Sunnah and their Sciences for fiscal 2024/2025 revealed that the revenues of the authority did not exceed one percent of its expenses, recording only about KD27,300 revenues compared to expenses of KD2.934 million. The newspaper obtained a copy of the final account of the authority, indicating that employee compensation accounted for the largest share of spending --more than KD2 million or about 70 percent of total expenses. It stated that the expenses are covered from the budgets of ministries and government departments by the Ministry of Finance and general accounts, given the minimal internal revenues, which are limited to goods and services. It is worth mentioning that a decree was issued on Jan 20 to repeal Law No. 10/2011 regarding the establishment of the authority. The decree stipulated that “all the rights and obligations of the authority shall be transferred to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. The employees working at the authority will be transferred to the ministry with the same grades, while retaining their salaries and fi- nancial benefits.” Article Three prohibits any official or private body from printing the Holy Qur’an or importing any edition of it unless a permit is obtained from the ministry.
