Violators taken by surprise in consecutive campaigns

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 27: The campaigns that were organized by a joint committee formed by the Council of Ministers over the past few days in the suburb of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh on the stores and restaurants resulted in the seizure of a large number persons reported absconding by their employers, reports Al-Anba daily.

A few days after the committee’s crackdown on the Jleeb Al- Shuyoukh the shop owners and violating workers did not expect another similar campaign would follow within a short time, which created a state of confusion and did not give sufficient time for the shop owners and the violating workers to make a quick escape. The committee had earlier, targeted some sites in the area, after it had been previously monitored by inspectors from the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), and it was discovered that there were many violating files hiring a number of bulk workers in the shops and commercial markets.

The Deputy Director General of PAM for the Protection Sector and Chairman of the Joint Committee Dr Mubarak Al-Ja’afour told the daily 108 violators were arrested during the two campaigns, including domestic workers and others who were reported absconding by their sponsors, in addition to a number of workers who were staying in the country after their residence permits had expired.

The daily added, the committee also discovered a number of shops were operating without a licence and some outlets such as eateries had employed workers who did not hold a ‘FIT” health card. Al-Ja’afour added, legal measures will be taken in accordance with the laws in and the company file of the violating employer will be suspended under code 73 according to which all work procedures are suspended except for the final cancellation of travel.

In turn, the head of the inspection committee of the Joint Committee for the Reorganization of Expatriate Labor at the Labor Inspection Department, Muhammad Al-Dhafiri, affirmed that the committee is continuing its weekly campaigns in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area, in order to completely cleanse it of all negative phenomena related to the labor market and to control the largest number of violators of the labor and residence laws
