Qatar to provide one mln doses of Covid-19 vaccine to World Cup ’22 fans

DOHA, June 20: Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khaled bin Khalifa Al-Thani said Sunday that his country is negotiating with a company to provide one million vaccines against Covid-19 in order to immunize and vaccinate all those who plan to come to the World Cup Qatar 2022. Sheikh Khaled said, in an interview with the local press, that the main goal of vaccinating those coming to Qatar is to protect the public health of citizens and residents. He stressed that his country’s preparations to host the World Cup are going well and at an accelerated and distinguished pace, despite the difficult circumstances that swept the world due to the pandemic.

He added that Qatar is ready to host the tournament, the most important of which is the infrastructure of the transportation network and various services, including accommodation and health care, in addition to the stadiums, which are being worked on at excellent pace, while some of them have been completed and already hosted various important events. The Qatari official noted that the 2021 Arab Cup next December will show Qatar’s capabilities in hosting major tournaments a year before the start of the World Cup (Qatar 2022) and will also reflect the efficiency and readiness of the infrastructure and World Cup facilities in the country. Regarding the public attendance of the World Cup, Sheikh Khaled said that when the World Cup arrives, most countries of the world will have vaccinated and immunized their citizens, adding that there is a possibility that some countries will not be able to vaccinate all their citizens, Qatar will not allow the fans to enter the stadiums without receiving a full vaccination against the virus.
