QATAR, Dec 21: On Thursday, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Al-Budaiwi, expressed admiration for Qatar's effective mediation in facilitating a prisoner swap deal between the United States and Venezuela. Al-Budaiwi commended Qatar's diplomatic prowess, highlighting global confidence in its mediation capabilities. In a press statement, he emphasized that Qatar's success underscored its influential role on the international stage, establishing itself as a key mediator for resolving regional and international conflicts.

Al-Budaiwi characterized this diplomatic achievement as a testament to Qatar's reliability as a partner both regionally and globally, emphasizing its constructive role in promoting security and peace worldwide. Earlier on the same day, Qatar had announced the successful outcome of its mediation efforts, leading to a prisoner exchange agreement between the United States and Venezuela.

Qatari Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Al-Khulaifi, revealed that 10 American prisoners were released by Venezuela in exchange for a Venezuelan prisoner. This exchange followed a series of mediation rounds between the two nations. Al-Khulaifi highlighted that this step is part of a broader mediation initiative aimed at addressing outstanding issues between the United States and Venezuela.
