KUWAIT CITY, Dec 16: Recent statistics issued by the Ministry of Justice indicated the public prosecution registered a total of 14,571 cases within the first 10 months of 2019, of which 25.15 percent representing 3665 cases were shelved, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The statistics, which the daily obtained a copy, pointed to 5370 criminal cases of which the public prosecution dropped 1867 cases (25.45 percent) including murder, kidnapping, assault, drugs and narcotics smuggling, indicating a quarter of those cases were put off.

Approximately 1625 cyber related crimes were recorded out of which the department shelved 921 cases constituting 56 percent- in what it considered to be the highest number of deferred cases, while only one out of 35 environment related cases was dropped. Report mentioned 2002 cases related to cheques, of which 483 cases representing 24 percent were shelved, while 529 cases (13.2 percent) out of the total 3993 cases related to trade were deferred, and only 7 cases (11 percent) out of the total 62 press misdemeanor cases were dropped, in addition to 6 audio-visual related offenses (40 percent) out of 15 cases.
