KUWAIT CITY, Jan 18: The Public Prosecution Office has presented its brief in the case of the “Malaysian Fund”, in which three persons are accused, and demanded their imprisonment, in the case which it described as the largest money laundering operation in the modern era, reports Al-Qabas daily. The representative of the Public Prosecutor, Director of the Public Funds Prosecution, Hammoud Al-Shami, attended and pleaded before the Criminal Court, and confirmed that the defendants used their influence, violated the laws, and laundered money through fake projects that have nothing to do with reality. Al-Shami, pleaded before the court saying, “How can a company that was established a month ago and owned by the first defendant, with a capital of 1,000 dinars, receive a transfer of one billion dollars?” The prosecution representative added, “The first accused received a commission of 15 million dinars from one money-laundering operation, and transferred 6 million into the accounts of his children.”

Legitimized
He pointed out saying, “our religion has legitimized that fire is more worthy than any meat that comes from forbidden money.” Al-Shami indicated that the second accused studied with “Jho Low” at the same university, as the latter is currently wanted by 30 countries, and the first accused obtained a visa for him to Kuwait in 2016 and received him at his home, and began planning money laundering. He concluded saying, this crime harms national security and the national economy, and called for imposing the penalties stipulated in the money laundering law and imprisoning the accused.

Meanwhile, the Court of Ministers, headed by Counselor Nasr Al Haid, acquitted all defendants in the case of the Eurofighter deal, reports Al-Qabas daily. The Public Prosecution pleaded – for the first time in the history of the judiciary – before the Court of Ministers in the case of (the Eurofighter purchase deal), while the Standing Committee for the Trial of Ministers received from the Public Prosecutor the communication submitted against the former Minister of Defense and other officers. The committee had accused the defendants of intentional damage to public funds and withholding information from the oversight authorities.
