Proposal to set up diwaniyas outside houses ‘rejected’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 29: Kuwait Municipality has rejected the proposal to establish diwaniyas outside houses, reports Al-Anba daily. The Municipality highlighted the negative consequences of such a proposal, considering the diwaniyas will be established on State properties near private houses. It stressed that this move is tantamount to encroaching on State properties, in addition to the possible emergence of security and social problems in the residential areas.

Meanwhile, Director of the Engineering Licensing Department at the Kuwait Municipality branch in the Capital Governorate Eng Nizar Al-Awwad said the department issued a total of 1,503 licenses in 2022 — 1,097 for private housing; 45 for investment; 296 for services, crafts and industries; 10 for branches of associations; 14 for commercial establishments and 42 for mosques, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Awwad disclosed the achievements of the department last year include the issuance of 427 new building licenses, 21 restorations, 750 modifications and expansions, 39 cultivations, 17 awnings and 342 demolitions. He added the number of transactions received from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for the issuance of commercial licenses reached 33,257.
