Government mulls overhaul of job seeker registration policies

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: In a move aimed at modernizing the employment landscape, the government sector is considering amendments to the conditions for registering job seekers, which have remained unchanged for 25 years.

Sources close to the matter have proposed introducing a new feature for citizens employed in the private sector. This feature would prioritize their employment in government positions if they possess a minimum of two years of experience in the private sector. The goal is to alleviate pressure on government employment while simultaneously promoting private-sector engagement.

Additionally, indications have emerged regarding the transfer of employees from the Provincial Affairs Council to vacant positions within ministries due to resignations, retirements, or available replacements from expiring budgets.

The first transfer occurred last week following approval from the Bureau to one of the ministries. Subsequent transfers will be executed following the Bureau’s circular, which outlines criteria such as seniority, specialization, personal preference, and organizational need.

With 2,405 employees from the Provincial Affairs Council awaiting transfer, there is a palpable eagerness to be assigned to entities offering financial benefits such as allowances or specific job roles. These employees are actively coordinating with the office for their swift transfer, currently receiving their full salaries without any deductions.

Furthermore, there is uncertainty regarding whether employees of the Provincial Affairs Council will be permitted to request transfers to other government agencies, similar to the restrictions imposed on job seekers seeking individual nominations for specific positions within government entities.
