Private tutorial ‘infiltrates’ Kuwait University

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: The private tutorial phenomenon is now widespread at the College of Business Administration in Kuwait University, such that it is being announced within the university premises; while some private institutes sponsor a particular student union in the college to put their advertisements on the covers of notebooks and other materials distributed to students, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The advertisements contain names of teachers in these institutes stating that they are holders of bachelor’s degree and professional certificates; in addition to the subjects they teach, address of the institute and phone numbers. A similar advertisement was placed on notebooks distributed by a student club in the college.

The advertisements affirmed readiness to teach all subjects in the college like Accounting, Finance and Marketing. The advertisements show the names of teachers and how to contact them – a clear violation of regulations and principles guiding the activities of student unions at the university.

The concerned officials were surprised that the college administration allowed distribution of such advertisements to students.

They disclosed the allocation of booths for distribution of materials pass through several officials who should have curbed the spread of private tutorials rather than promoting such advertisements.
