KUWAIT CITY, July 13: A security officer assigned to prison security has been referred to the Sulaibiya Police Station after allegedly attempting to smuggle a concealed mobile phone into the Central Prison, according to a statement by the Central Prison Security Forces.
A security source confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department has launched an in-depth probe to determine whether the officer has been previously involved in similar acts, including smuggling prohibited items such as mobile phones, drugs, or other contraband into prison cells. Investigators also aim to identify any inmates he may have been in contact with.
The incident occurred late the day before yesterday, when the officer arrived at his duty station at the Central Prison. As per protocol, he was asked to pass through a metal detector and a prohibited items scanner, both of which flagged the presence of a suspicious object. Upon conducting a thorough physical search, prison personnel discovered a hidden smartphone on the officer.
The Director General of the General Administration of Correctional Institutions was promptly notified and ordered that immediate legal measures be taken, resulting in the officer’s referral to the appropriate authorities.
The source emphasized that strict security protocols are currently in place at the Central Prison, mandating that all personnel undergo comprehensive screening before entering the facility. These measures are part of an ongoing effort to curb the smuggling of banned materials and maintain the integrity of prison operations.
