NEW YORK, May 14: The Archewell Foundation, established by Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, faces operational hurdles as California officials have declared it delinquent, rendering it unable to raise funds. The state determined that the foundation failed to submit its annual report or pay registration fees, thus halting its fundraising activities.

A source familiar with the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the organization attempted to rectify the situation by sending a physical check for registration fees, which went missing. A replacement check has been dispatched, with expectations of resolving the matter imminently.

While the foundation asserts that its tax filings and required payments were sent to the California Attorney General's Office via tracked mail and received on time, online records indicate a delinquency notice was issued on May 3. The organization's last renewal was recorded on May 15, 2023.

As a consequence of this delinquency, the charity faces restrictions on fundraising activities, potential penalties, or even suspension or revocation of its registration. The setback comes at a time when the foundation's financial health appears strained, with 2022 tax filings revealing an $11 million decrease in donations compared to the previous year.

Established in 2021 with a mission to "uplift and unite communities," the Archewell Foundation has faced challenges amid its operational and financial woes. Meanwhile, Prince Harry, 39, and Duchess Meghan, 42, embarked on their inaugural trip to Nigeria, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

During their visit, the royal couple engaged with students attended cultural performances, met with Nigeria's chief of defense staff, and participated in events honoring military families. Prince Harry also visited injured service members at a military hospital, underscoring the foundation's commitment to supporting veterans and their communities.
