ISLAMABAD, Aug 3, (Xinhua): One policeman and two terrorists were killed while four police officers were injured when militants attacked a police post in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province in the wee hours of Sunday morning, police sources said.

The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. local time (GMT 2130 Saturday) in Bannu district of KP, where militants opened fire with both small and heavy weapons on the police post, the sources from the district's police told Xinhua.

Police retaliated, and the exchange of fire continued for about 30 minutes before subsiding, the sources added. During a search operation afterwards, police recovered the bodies of the two unidentified militants killed in the firefight.

According to the sources, another group of militants ambushed a police patrol under the same police station during the attack, but no casualties were reported in that incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
