PM queried on travel ban on non-vaccinated Kuwaitis

KUWAIT CITY, May 5: MP Osama Al- Shaheen forwarded queries to His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid about the rationale behind the decision issued on May 3, 2021 to prevent citizens from travelling abroad unless they are vaccinated against covid-19 even if their destination does not impose vaccination as an entry condition. He asked if any of the expatriate workers in the private sector were exempted from the provisions defined by the Higher Committee for addressing coronavirus crisis regarding their entry to Kuwait during the crisis.
He wants to know if the fourth batch of foreign medical teams got vaccinated before arriving in Kuwait, if the expatriate workers at the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs were vaccinated before entering the country, and if these workers were exempted from the travel regulations because the two ministries need their services. The parliamentary Housing Affairs Committee was set to meet Wednesday in the presence of Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs Khalifa Hamada and the representatives of Kuwait Credit Bank (KCB) and Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW). Committee Chairman MP Fayez Al- Jomhour disclosed that they will discuss ways to finance the housing projects in South Saad Al-Abdullah City and South Sabah Al-Ahmad City.
On the other hand, Interior and Defense Affairs Committee member MP Marzouq Al-Khalifa explained that the meeting slated for Tuesday did not push through due to the deliberate absence of Committee Chairman MP Mubarak Al- Ajmi, Rapporteur MP Muhammad Obaid Al-Rajhi and member MP Salman Al- Helailah; indicating that only he and MP Bader Al-Humaidi were present. He said the meeting was scheduled to discuss the proposed amendment of the law on disqualifying candidates convicted of offending Allah, Prophets (Peace Be Upon Them) and the Amiri Entity; and permanently ban them from participating in the elections. He added the committee was supposed to decide whether the law is in line with the Islamic Sharia, pointing out that Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Undersecretary Fareed Al-Emadi and other officials of the ministry were present at the meeting but it was adjourned due to lack of quorum.
He went on to say that some parties are trying hard to stop the amendment of the law, indicating he is afraid that directives were issued to disrupt the meeting. MP Hesham Al-Saleh asked Minister of State for Municipality, Housing and Urban Development Affairs Shaya Abdulrahman Al-Shaya to provide him with the list of current and former MPs and ministers who have been granted agricultural plots for themselves or for their first and second degree relatives while in office.
