‘Pay for power, water based on new tariff plan’

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 17: Ministry of Electricity and Water has obliged Ministry of Education to pay for the electricity and water used in schools, nurseries and other educational facilities based on the new tariff plan, which is 25 fils per kilowatt of electricity and KD 4 per 1,000 gallons of water, reports Al-Rai daily.

Undersecretary of Ministry of Electricity and Water Mohammad Boushahri sent a letter in this regard to the Undersecretary of Ministry of Education Dr Haitham Al-Atari in which he affirmed that the ministry will change the payment plan based on law no. 20/2016 which is supposed to be applied from the start of the academic year of 2016/2017.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Education has sent several circulars to all educational zones and a number of schools in which it stressed the need for rationalization. Sources from the ministry indicated about the ministry’s plan to launch a project for using solar power in schools for which 11 tenders worth a total of KD 15 million will be floated, adding that these tenders include importing solar plates and fixing them on the roofs of schools prior to the start of the academic year of 2016/2017
