Afternoon work ban in open areas now ends
Public Authority for Manpower building

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2: The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has concluded its "Their Safety is More Important" campaign, coinciding with the end of the summer afternoon work ban in open areas, which was in effect from June 1 to August 31, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Marzouq Al-Otaibi, the Acting Director General of the Manpower Authority, announced that the Authority launched an awareness campaign and conducted inspection campaigns to enforce Administrative Resolution No. 535 of 2015. This resolution prohibits employing workers in exposed workplaces during harsh climatic conditions that make it difficult to perform work during normal hours.

Al-Otaibi detailed the outcomes of the inspection campaigns conducted by the afternoon work team, which is part of the National Center for Occupational Health and Safety. From June 1, 2024, to August 31, 2024, the team inspected 205 violating sites, identified 213 workers employed in these sites, received 58 reports, and found 129 sites in violation for the first time. Additionally, 119 sites were re-inspected after completing necessary corrections, and 7 sites were found to be repeat offenders.

Al-Otaibi emphasized that implementing Administrative Resolution No. 535 of 2015 is intended to regulate working hours without reducing them and does not cause delays in ongoing projects. Instead, it reflects a commitment to the public interest and aligns with Kuwait's obligations to uphold international labor standards. The Authority expressed gratitude to those who adhered to the decision and to citizens who cooperated by reporting any violations of the noon work ban.
